India Mandelkern is a Los Angeles native and a graduate of Middlebury College. She received a Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Berkeley. Since then, she has worked as a curator, consultant, and critic, and has written on various topics –– food and wine to art and design –– for many publications. In 2023, she published her first book, Electric Moons: A Social History of Street Lighting in Los Angeles, an interdisciplinary deep dive into the art and politics of public lighting inspired by a Mellon/ACLS postdoctoral fellowship at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). A certified sommelier, she is currently writing a book about wine.
